Lee Banks is 'Mr. Efficiency' for Lions

Posted: Wednesday, November 09, 2005

In Augusta Christian's quarterfinal victory over Laurence Manning, senior quarterback Lee Banks had an average game.

Average for him, anyway.

Banks completed all nine of his passes for 156 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for a score as he led ACS to a 35-6 win and a trip to the state semifinals.

You see, Banks has been the model of efficiency this season, perhaps the most efficient quarterback in Columbia County since Craig Cassedy was under center for the Evans Knights in the late 1980s.

For the season, Banks has completed an astounding 73 of 99 passes he's thrown. He's also set a school record for touchdown passes in a season with 18. He has thrown just three interceptions in his 99 pass attempts. Not to mention the fact that he has thrown and rushed for more than 1,000 yards (1,251 passing, 1,047 rushing).

Banks is having one of the finest individual statistical seasons of any quarterback in the state of Georgia (or South Carolina, for that matter) in any classification. Hopefully, he has two more solid games in him.

This Week

Augusta Christian (10-1, ranked No. 2) vs. Wilson Hall (9-2, ranked No. 3 in SCISA)

The Lions are trying to reach a state title game for the first time in school history. They will have their hands full with a talented Wilson Hall club, but I like ACS to advance.

ACS 34, Wilson Hall 26
