Doctors are required to report outbreaks of drug-resistant infections

Editor:

I read the Oct. 26 story in The News-Times, "Doctors see more resistant infections," and was dismayed to find that the Medical College of Georgia doctor found that it is so common that they do not "specifically" record the number of cases.

I do hope you do a follow up and let that doctor and the hospital know that they are required to report it. Many cases of MRSA (methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus) are misdiagnosed as spider bites or other bug bites.

Misdiagnosis is one reason that MRSA keeps going and going often resulting in death or disability.

I hope to see more articles about MRSA, how it is spread and possibly even which hospitals in Augusta have the most outbreaks, as in the hospital its mostly spread by health-care workers.
