Hulsebus thrives in Bridgewater football

Posted: Sunday, November 06, 2005

Former Augusta Christian standout Corey Hulsebus is closing out his college football career in fine fashion at Division III Bridgewater College in Bridgewater, Va.

While at Augusta Christian, Hulsebus was a sure-handed receiver and a key member of several good teams produced by Augusta Christian from 1997-99.

After graduating in the spring of 2000, Hulsebus had the opportunity to continue playing football at North Greenville Junior College. Because of his large frame, he was transformed from a high school wide receiver to a college tight end, and the move proved to be successful as he hauled in 31 passes while at North Greenville.

He chose to transfer to Tusculum College in Tusculum, Ala., for his final two seasons.

However, he spent only a short time in Alabama before he decided to move back home to Augusta. Then he decided to pursue football again and landed a spot on the Bridgewater team last season.

Now a 6-5, 220-pound senior, Hulsebus is a starter and has helped lead Bridgewater to a 7-1 record and a No. 18 national ranking.

A couple of weeks ago, Hulsebus had a week he will never forget.

In Bridgewater's 62-48 win over Guilford College, the former Augusta Christian Lion grabbed four passes for 55 yards and three touchdowns.

His performance earned him a spot on the d3football.com Team of the Week.

Bridgewater has two games remaining on its regular season schedule before the team will gear up for the NCAA Division III playoffs.
