Road closing

Evans-to-Locks Road will be closed at the railroad tracks from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday for track maintenance.

Courthouse reopens Friday

Columbia County's historic Appling Courthouse, the oldest operating courthouse in Georgia, will officially reopen with a ribbon-cutting at 2 p.m. Friday after extensive renovations. The public is invited to attend the ceremony and tour the building.

Grovetown vote

Advance voting for Grovetown's general election will continue through Friday in the Columbia County Board of Elections Office at the Government Complex, Building B in Evans. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Harlem drama

The Harlem High School drama department will perform "See How They Run" at 7 p.m. Friday at the school. Admission costs $5 at the door. For information, call Roy Lewis at 556-5980, extension 227.

Miss Senior Harlem

Applications are being accepted for contestants in the Miss Senior Harlem Beauty Pageant, to be held at 7 p.m. Nov. 18 at the Harlem High School Auditorium. The contest is open to Harlem residents age 50-older. For information e-mail csrapageants@aol.com or call Kathy Ham, 556-0401.

GOP women

The Greater Columbia County Republican Women will meet from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Vineyard Wine Market on Evans-to-Locks at North Belair Road in Evans. Cost is $8 and includes a wine tasting at 7 p.m. The organization will elect officers at 7:30 p.m. Call 854-8470.

Legion cookout

American Legion Post 192 in Evans will have a cookout at 2 p.m. Saturday. Plates cost $5. Call 863-8728.

Church yard sale

Church of Our Savior, 4227 Columbia Road, Martinez, will hold a yard sale from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Saving the columns

Save the Columns will discuss the rescue of the Evans pillars and arch at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Evans Middle School.
