Kate Rowe of Martinez, Ga., celebrated her 100th birthday Friday, September 23, 2005. She was honored on this special occasion with a birthday luncheon at Jones Creek Country Club. Born Ina Kate Chance in Jenkins County, Ga., Kate moved to Augusta in the mid 1920s to attend business college. She met and married the late Patrick H. Rowe, an attorney and state legislator who operated a grocery store, together with Kate, on Wrightsboro Road at Barton Chaple Road for over 40 years. Kate currently resides at Forrest Lake Health Care on Pleasant Home Road. Among her friends and family joining Kate for lunch were her daughters Frances Ellis and Anna Ruth Carter, her grandchildren, Jennifer Barnes, Alan Dye, Leslie Dales and Michael Carter.
