Water-bill flyer isn't just self-promotion; it helps keep citizens informed

Editor:

Recent criticisms in The News-Times of County Commission Ron Cross' self-promoting himself through the medium of the county's monthly water and sewage bill became baseless with the last issue. Important apolitical information was shared by non-elected officials. Photographs of these two officials were shown, not Cross.

Inclusion of photographs of our county officials, both elected and appointed, in the monthly water and sewage bill helps us to recognize and become familiar with them. We can approach them outside the conference room, knowing who they are. Now that photographs of officials other than Cross have been shown, I would like to see messages from and photographs of all our county officials in forthcoming water and sewage bills.

I have lived in Columbia County since 1973, and today I am more informed about the affairs of our government than ever before. Rather than criticize Cross, I applaud him for fulfilling his responsibility to keep us informed. I would criticize his failure to perform this important duty.
