Service academy applications
Friday is the deadline to send applications to U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., for nominations to the nation's service academies. Applications can be obtained by visiting www.chambliss.senate.gov.
Haunted theater
Harlem's old theater building on Main Street will be the site of a haunted theater at 7 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, and again Dec. 27-29 and 31. All proceeds will go to the Harlem Foundation for theater renovation. For information, call 556-0043.
Fall festival
The Columbia County Advocates for Special Education PTO wil hold a fall festival from 3:30-6 p.m. Oct. 29 at the Evans High School pavilion.
River Ridge bazaar
River Ridge Elementary School will hold a holiday bazaar from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Nov. 5, with vendor booths from vendors including Pampered Chef, Mary Kay and Cookie Lee Jewelry. Booth space is available. For information, call Janeabeth Wells at 854-8460.
Pumpkin sale fund-raiser
Wesley United Methodist Church, 825 N. Belair Road in Evans, is selling pumpkins to raise funds for its Honduras Mission Outreach Team. The pumpkins will be available through Oct. 30. For information, call Linda Jolley at 869-0888.
Pumpkin patch
Marvin United Methodist Church's pumpkin patch, with pumpkins, mums and hay for sale for fall decorating, is open from noon-8 p.m. Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturdays and 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays through Oct. 31 at the church, on Wheeler Road and Belair Road. The church's annual barbecue also will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. For information, call 863-0510.
Red Cross classes
The Augusta Red Cross is holding these classes:
Babysitter training from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at the Martinez Columbia Fire Rescue headquarters training room, 3910 Desoto Drive, Martinez.
A lifeguard class will be held Oct. 28 and 29, Nov. 4-6 and Nov. 12 at the Augusta Aquatic Center, 3157 Damascus Road. Cost is $115 per person, plus $2 per day.
