Merit scholarship for Lakeside graduate
Augusta Christian High School's Wayne House and Larrie Reece have been honored with a nomination for the coveted Wendy's High School Heisman Award. Awarded in conjunction with the collegiate Heisman, this program celebrates the nation's top high school seniors who best exemplify a well-rounded "citizen-scholar-athlete."
Nakul S. Shekhawat, of Evans, has received a Vanderbilt University merit scholarship in the probable career field of medicine. He is a 2005 graduate of Lakeside High School.
College acceptance for Lakeside senior
Hannah Hastings, of Martinez, has been accepted to Faulkner University for the fall semester 2006. She is currently a senior at Lakeside High School.
Oklahoma State honors participant
Adrean Riba, of Evans, a freshman at Oklahoma State University, is one of 393 freshmen taking part in the Oklahoma State University Honors College.
Advisory Council member selected
Jaspal Bhatia, a sophomore from Lakeside High School, is one of more than 50 high school students chosen to serve on the Georgia School Superintendent's Student Ad-visory Council.
The 52 council members will meet with the superintendent discuss how decisions made at the state level are affecting students in Georgia's schools. The members of the group also will serve as liaisons between students and the Georgia Department of Education.
Evans resident will present at conference
Harold Mock, of Evans, a senior majoring in history and political science at Georgia College & State University, was selected to be a presenter at the National Collegiate Honors Conference, Oct. 26-30 in St. Louis, Mo.
Mock will make a presentation titled, "Honors Residential Seamless Experience: A Gate-way for Student Success," based on three years of on-going research exploring the application of classroom theory to an honors residential setting. He also will co-present, "Honors Student Associations as Gateways for Student Success," with Rachel McKenna, a junior from Duluth, Ga.
Mock is the son of Michelle and Harold Mock Jr., of Evans, and graduated from Evans High School, where he was a member of the wind ensemble, marching band and debate team.
Andrea Claire Miller, daughter of Andre and Gayle Miller of Harlem, has received a master of business administration management degree from Middle Tennessee State University. Andrea is a 1994 graduate and valedictorian of Harlem High School and a 1998 summa cum laude graduate of Mercer University.
Deana Leigh Johnson, daughter of Kenneth and Pam Johnson, of Evans, recently graduated from North Greenville College in Greenville, S.C., where she received her bachelor of arts degree in interdisciplinary studies. Deana is pursuing her masters of arts degree in biblical counseling at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, N.C.
Jessica Lauren Stokely graduated cum laude from Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, Ga., with a bachelor of science degree in early childhood education. Jessica is a 2001 graduate of Evans High School and is teaching third grade at National Hills Elementary in Augusta. Jessica is the daughter of Ricky and Jeanette Stokely and sister of Sarah Stokely of Martinez.
