Stephen Young, of Evans, has been accepted to the fall 2005 Cooperative Education Work Program at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Young, a sophomore majoring in aerospace engineering, is employed as a missile technician with Lockheed Martin Corp. in Arlington, Texas. He is the son of Tonney and Michel Young, of Evans and a 2004 graduate of Greenbrier High School.
Heather Holt, a 1999 graduate of Aquinas High School, attended classes at Cypress College for two years while performing and touring with The Young Americans, an international singing and dancing company. She graduated from California State University, Fullerton, in May 2005 with a bachelor of science in health science and a minor in kinesiology. Holt was invited to assist the Radio City Rockettes with their summer workshop in Long Beach, Calif. She is a parade dancer at Disneyland and teaches 13 classes a week at Focus Dance Center in Irvine, Calif. She also is serving as a member of the local planning committee for the American School Health Association's annual professional conference.

The following area residents graduated from Argosy University during the summer 2005 semester: Walter Taylor, of Evans, receiving a doctor of education in educational leadership; and Aundrelet Clarke, of Grovetown, receiving a master of arts in guidance counseling. Also graduating from Argosy University during the spring 2005 semester was Janet Lenard, of Evans, who received a doctor of education degree in counseling psychology.

Justin Kent Maryak, of Augusta, earned the distinction of faculty honors for the summer semester at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Julie Owens (right), a teacher at Lewiston Elementary School, receives a crystal apple award from Professional Association of Georgia Educators Executive Director Allene Magill at the group's annual conference in Atlanta. Owens undertook the responsibilities of a PAGE building contact one year ago and has increased membership at her school by 15 members.

Erin England, of Martinez, appeared in the Sept. 6 ESPN broadcast featuring highlights of the Drum Corps International 2005 World Championships. England, a former captain of the Evans High School Band Flag Corps, competed as a member of the Carolina Crown drum corps from Fort Mill, S.C. The Carolina Crown finished seventh place in the overall score, and the Crown color guard was rated fifth best in the world. England, a junior at the University of Georgia, is the choreography assistant and a performing member of the UGA Red Coat Marching Band Flag Line. She also is the color guard director at Madison County High School.

Angela Daskal, a 1996 graduate of Lakeside High School, has been named Teacher of the Year for York School District 1 in York, S.C. Daskal is a second-grade teacher at Jefferson Elementary. She also is a graduate of Winthrop University with a bachelor of science in elementary education and a masters of education in reading. She is the daughter of Jim and Marianna Daskal, of Martinez.
