Harlem High workshop
Harlem High School guidance counselors will conduct a parent/student workshop from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. The workshop is designed to cover postsecondary options, college application procedures, testing, scholarships and other information for 11th-and 12th-grade students. Snacks, drinks and door prizes will be offered.
Animal blessing
The Church of the Holy Comforter will hold its annual Blessing of the Animals at 10 a.m. Saturday on Doctors Hospital Field in Evans.
All animals are welcome, with free treats for animals and people. Happy Tails Rescue will be on hand for pet adoptions.
Pets should be restrained. Donations for the animal victims of Hurricane Katrina will be accepted. For information, call the church office at 210-1133.
Republican breakfast
The monthly Columbia County Republican Party breakfast will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Peppermill restaurant in Evans.
Guest speakers are scheduled to be Ralph Reed and Sen. Casey Cagle, candidates for Georgia lieutenant governor, and state Sen. Brian Kemp and Gary Black, candidates for agriculture commissioner.
Public hearing
Columbia County's Solid Waste Management Department will hold a public hearing at 7 p.m. Monday in the Government Center Auditorium in Evans as part of the county's Solid Waste Management Plan update. For information, call Costa Pappis at 210-2000.
Gospel concert
The Rock of Ages Christian Revue gospel group will be the featured artists in a Broadway-style musical, American Christian Bandstand, at 6 p.m. Oct. 1 at the Augusta Towers Hotel and Convention Center.
Greek festival
Greek Festival 2005 will be held Oct. 7-9 at the Greek Orthodox Church at 953 Telfair St., Augusta, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Oct. 7-8, and noon-6 p.m. Oct. 9. The annual event features live entertainment, Greek foods and a craft bazaar. Admission and parking are free. For information, call 724-1087.
