Harlem High workshop

Harlem High School guidance counselors will conduct a parent/student workshop from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. The workshop is designed to cover post-secondary options, college application procedures, testing, scholarships, and other information for 11th-and 12th-grade students. Snacks, drinks and door prizes will be offered.

Chamber golf tournament

The Columbia County Chamber of Commerce will hold its inaugural golf tournament Tuesday at Champions Retreat in Evans. The event is a fundraiser to benefit the chamber. Those interested in being a sponsor or in fielding a team should call 651-0018. Story/Page 9

Pageant planned

Contestants are being sought for the 2005 Miss Columbia County Fair Scholarship Pageant to be held Oct. 15. The pageant, sponsored by the Merchants Association of Columbia County, is for single women, ages 16-24 (17 by Jan. 15, 2006) who are residents of the area. Competition will be in swimsuit, evening gown and interview. The winner will represent Columbia County at the state pageant in Atlanta in January. Book fair

Greenbrier Elementary School's Fall Book Fair will be held from 4-8 p.m. Friday through Sept. 30 in the Media Center. Family Book Fair Night will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday.

Auditions under way

Columbia County Arts is holding open auditions for performances of The Music Man, to be staged during the grand opening of the Jabez Stanford Hardin Performing Arts Center in Evans in spring 2006. Auditions for ages 15-older will be held from 2-5 p.m. today and from 7-9 p.m. Monday. Call Fred Elser at 868-9663, or Bob Schwamberger at 855-1382.
