Editor:
Fall is fast approaching and the kids are back in school. That can only mean one thing: fund-raising. The schools send out their wares and in a few store fronts or at your doorstep, a smartly dressed Scout will be trying to get you to by some popcorn.
As an advocate and volunteer leader for Scouting and its ideals, I know exactly where the money goes and why its a worthwhile effort:
It is our only fund-raiser so that the boys may spend more time being Scouts, not salesmen; and,
2) Of all the popcorn sold, 35-40 percent of every dollar goes to the unit to pay for programming awards, camping and field trips and making better citizens.
So remember to help the boys keep doing good deeds, camping and learning, do a good deed for yourself and buy some popcorn or at least donate to that Scout. That little that you give adds up to a lot for them!
