"I'm sunburned and blistered, but I think it's worth it," said Kaitlyn Dunaway, after three days of singing and dancing in front of Wal-Mart to get donations to the Red Cross Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund. "I wish I could do more," she said. In addition to her talents, Wal-Mart and Fairway Ford teamed up to raffle a 1997 Mercury sedan.

Lakeside Middle School pupils wear their hats for Hat Day. This was another fundraiser for Hurricane Katrina relief. The two-day total raised was $3,185.10. Because the school raised more than the $3,000 goal, Principal Felicia Dumas was to spend a school day inside a display case in the lobby of the school.

Evans Middle School has raised $700 so far for the hurricane victims by having the pupils contribute $1 each so they could wear a hat to school (which is not allowed other than for special events). The teachers were also allowed to wear a hat for a $1 or a pair of jeans for a contribution of $2. The school's goal is to raise $2,500.
