Two new faces have joined the news staff of The Columbia County News-Times:
- Billy Byler joins the staff as sports writer, replacing Jonathan Heeter, who moved to a new position in Macon, Ga.

Byler, a 2001 graduate of Augusta Christian Schools, formerly served as a staff writer in The Augusta Chronicle's Aiken Bureau.
Byler graduated last spring from Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, Tenn., with a bachelor's degree in mass communications.
His media experience includes interning with The Tennessean in Nashville, as a studio producer for the Tennessee Titans Radio Network, and as a student assistant for the sports information director for Trevecca Nazarene.
- Scott Trubey joins The News-Times as a staff writer.
He takes the position formerly held by Quandra Collins, who returned to school at the College of Charleston, S.C., to pursue a master's degree in education.
Trubey, who also will have an opportunity to work in photography for The News-Times, is originally from Athens, Ga., and is a 2005 graduate of the University of Georgia with a bachelor of arts degree in journalism.

Trubey recently served as a Morris Communications management intern and has worked as a photographer for the UGA Athletic Association and with The Red and Black student newspaper.
He interned in 2004 with the U.S. Army Embedded Media Training, National Training Center for Desert Warfare in Fort Irwin, Calif.
