Mercer honors

Camden graduates
Alex Marana, 18, a graduate of Evans High School, has been appointed to the Air Force Academy in Colorado. He is the son of David and Marjorie Marana, of Evans. Marana recently completed basic training and is now attending the academy. He plans to study computer engineering.

Erin Pippin, the daughter of Byron and Kim Pippin, has become part of Mercer University's Chip Off the Old Block program because her grandmother, Milton C. Gardner, and mother graduated from Mercer University. A graduate of Greenbrier High School, Erin plans to study chemistry at Mercer's College of Liberal Arts.

Vanderbilt University named the following area students to the dean's list for the spring semester: Samuel Ryan Cassady, Arts and Science, is the son of Mrs. Sandra A. Nehlen; Jennifer Lynn Schwartz, Peabody College, is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Paul B. Schwartz; Stephen Harris Jarrett, bachelor of engineering majoring in biomedical engineering graduated with high honors, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael R. Jarrett, of Martinez; Monica Pankaj Bhatt, Arts and Science, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Pankaj N. Bhatt, of Martinez.
Johnson & Wales graduates
The following students graduated from Johnson & Wales University in June: Jennifer Major, of Evans, and Nellie Rovansek, of Martinez, both received associate degrees from the College in Culinary Arts. Clinton McCalla, of Martinez, received a bachelor of science degree from the College of Culinary Arts and made the dean's list with at least a 3.4 or above average.
Boston graduate
Evans resident Lori E. Pepin has graduated from Boston University and received a bachelor of science degree in journalism.
English award
Sarah Walpert, of Martinez, has been awarded the Harry Freeman Alumni Scholarship by the College of Charleston. Walpert is a freshman majoring in communication and she is a graduate of Lakeside High School. She is the daughter of Steve and Elizabeth Walpert.

The United States Achievement Academy has announced that Chantal Knight, of Grovetown, has been named a United States National Award Winner in English. Knight, who attends Harlem High, was nominated for the award by a teacher at the school. She is the daughter of Theopelis and Martina Knight. Knight will appear in the United States Achievement Academy Official Yearbook, which is sold nationally. The academy recognizes fewer than 10 percent of all American high schools students.
Wake Forest dean's list
The following students were named to Wake Forest University dean's list for spring semester 2005: Andrew Burton Fisher, of Martinez, freshman; Levi Anderson Pollard, of Appling, junior, majoring in information systems; and Michael Douglas Soucy, of Martinez, senior, majoring in English.
North Greenville College dean's list
Virginia Ellen Wright, of Evans, has been named to the dean's list at North Greenville College for the spring 2005 semester. To qualify for the dean's list, students must maintain a 3.5 grade point average while taking a minimum of 12 hours.
Wofford College graduate
Allison Paige Cook graduated cum laude with a bachelor of arts in government and history. She is the daughter of Tim and Kathy Cook, of Appling.
Savannah College of Art and Design dean's list
Katie L. Atkinson, a pre-med student at Georgia Southern University and the daughter of Hugh and Jacki Atkinson, Jr., of Grovetown, graduated fron the university's Eagle Leadership EDGE program which prepares students for advanced leadership positions on campus.

Evans pharmacist receives national recognition
Marie A. Chisholm, a doctor of pharmacy and an associate professor at the University of Georgia, College of Pharmacy in Augusta, has been named a fellow of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists for distinguished service to pharmacy practice in hospitals and health systems. Applicants must have practiced in a concentrated area of pharmacy for at least 10 years to be considered for recognition. The award was presented June 14 during the society's summer meeting held in Boston.
