Planners accept restaurant proposal

Ruby Tuesday is heading to Columbia County.

At a Columbia County Planning Commission meeting Thursday, a representative of the restaurant chain said the business would like to have a 1.9-acre tract on Belair Frontage Road near Interstate 20 rezoned from light industrial to general commercial for a restaurant.

The planning commission unanimously approved the request after being told the business fits the area's development pattern.

"This is an area where primary uses are commercial services to the traveling public,'' said Jeff Browning, the county's planning director.

The restaurant currently is located on Bobby Jones Expressway in an area that will be razed to make way for reconstruction of the Interstate 20 interchange.

Also at the meeting, the commission unanimously approved preliminary plats for Chastain Place and River Island Settlement Section II, Phase I. Chastain Place is a subdivision being planned for Chamblin Road and will offer 84 lots on 26.7 acres. River Island Settlement's Section II, Phase I will be on Blackstone Camp Road and have 148 lots on 167 acres.

Final plats also were approved for Farmington Estates on Rolling Hill Road, Harris Ridge on Wrightsboro Road and River Island Settlement Section I, Phase II on Blackstone Camp Road.
