Samuel Gaston, of Evans, has been recognized as one of Comcast's Leaders and Achievers with a $1,000 grant from The Comcast Foundation for outstanding commitment to community service. Samuel, a 2005 graduate of Greenbrier High School, will attend Georgia Southern University this fall and is the son of Bobby Gaston Jr. of Evans.

Mining scholarship
Bethany Dieterich, a senior at Evans High School, is one of 82 high school seniors from 43 Georgia counties chosen to receive a $500 scholarship from the Georgia Mining Foundation. This scholarship award was funded by Rinker Materials.
Dieterich plans to attend North Georgia College and State University in the fall, where she will major in education. Bethany has participated in numerous extracurricular activities, including the National Honor Society, Beta Club, Interact Club, Student Council, and Renaissance Team. In addition, she demonstrated her athletic ability as part of the varsity cheer-leading squad and the varsity volleyball team.
