Beagle club plans Trade Day barbecue

Posted: Wednesday, July 27, 2005

Everyone needs a dog day of summer.

The sixth annual Barbecue and Trade Day, which will be sponsored by the CSRA Beagle Club, will be held at the Winfield Community Center on July 30.

The fellowship is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., with lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Barbecue chicken plates will be available for $6 each. Meal tickets may be purchased in advance from any CSRA Beagle Club member. Plates will include green beans, potato salad, slaw, bread, and tea. All other activities are free.

The event is a fundraiser to benefit the club. Members will bring beagles to sell, trade and show. The public is invited to do the same.

"A vendor is coming to sell all dog related products," said Dalton Rivers, a member of the club. Products will include collars, leashes and dog boxes.

"We want to encourage the kids," said Doug Norman, the treasurer of the club. "We will have pony rides, a moon walk, and a speaker (talking about) reptiles like snakes, turtles, and lizards."

The event has been successful in the past.

"We usually have a couple hundred people attend," Rivers said.

The CSRA Beagle Club meets on the second Monday of every month at 7:30 p.m. at the Beagle Club near the Winfield Community Center.
