Chandler Sims, 16, recently earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Chandler, a junior at Evans High School, completed several projects with the Georgia Forestry Commission along with his fellow scouts in Troop 122. Chandler is the son of Stephen and Gail Sims of Grovetown.

Law school degree recipient
Kristi Michelle Keyes, daughter of the Rev. Lonnie L. and Lillian Keyes, of Martinez, has been awarded the Juris Doctor degree from the University of Oklahoma City Law School. Keyes, a 1997 gradudate of Lakeside High School, also holds a bachelors degree from UGA's School of Journalism.
West Point graduate
Shavonne Nicole Holden has received a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering and a commission in the United States Army Corps of Engineers, graduating from West Point Military Academy on May 28. She is the daughter of John Henry Jr. and Linda A. Holden.
USC honors
The following Evans residents have received honors at the University of South Carolina: John Oliver Ellis, Presidents Honor roll and Dean's List; Carly Leah Jackson, Dean's List; Robert Nicholson Seigle Jr., Dean's List; and Sarah Clark Seigle, Dean's List.
Andrea Potocik was named to the President's List for achieving a perfect 4.0 grade point average during the spring semester at Georgia Southern University. Andrea has also been on the Dean's List each semester of the previous two years. She is a nursing major and a member of the Gamma Beta Phi National Collegiate Honor Society. Andrea is the daughter of Dave and Kathy Potocik of Martinez.

Georgia Southern graduate
Katrina D. Wood graduated December 10 from Georgia Southern University with the degree of Bachelor of Science in Journalism. A 2000 graduate of Lakeside High School, she was president of the GSU campus chapter of Sigma Delta Chi, the professional society for journalists. She was a member of Southern Pride marching band at Georgia Southern, and she was one of the founders for the GSU chapter of Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship. Katrina is the daughter of Barry and Gwen Wood, of Martinez.
UGA graduate
Shivani Gupta of Evans has been recognized as one of Comcast's Leaders and Achievers with a $1,000 grant from The Comcast Foundation for outstanding commitment to community service. Shivani, a graduate of Evans High School, will be attending Tulane University in the fall. Shivani's parents are Ashok Kumar Gupta and Neelamber Gupta of Evans.

Aja Ryan Reece, of Evans, recently received a special pin marking his graduation from Mercer University's Georgia Baptist College of Nursing.
Georgia Tech Dean's List
Dana K. Long has been named to the Dean's List for the Ivan Allen College at Georgia Institute of Technology for the spring semester. Long is a 2001 honor graduate of Milton High School and is currently a senior majoring in International Affairs at Georgia Tech. She will be participating in the Georgia Tech study abroad program this summer at the University of Oxford in London England. Long is the daughter of Carolyne F. Long, of Evans.
Georgia Tech faculty honors
Isabel Mallar, daughter of Dr. Hector Mallar and Maria Mallar of Martinez, participated in the National American Miss pageant in Atlanta, Ga., as a state finalist on June 18-19.

Cori Patricia Smith, of Evans, has been named to the Dean's List at Florida State University for the spring semester. Smith is in her junior year at Florida State as an advertising major in the School of Communications. She is a 2003 graduate of Lakeside High School.
Japanese program participant
Emily Orr, daughter of John and Kimi Orr, of Martinez, has been selected in the Japan Exchange and Teaching program. Orr is a graduate of the University of Georgia, having earned a bachelor's degree in Japanese and comparative literature and earned an AA in business management from the University of Maryland in 2002. She is one of approximately 1,200 finalists from the U.S. to depart for Japan.
