Festival planned at canal

Posted: Wednesday, July 20, 2005

An old-fashioned festival will be held at the Augusta Canal Headgates in Evans on Saturday.

Summertime on the Canal will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the canal headgates at 3300 Evans-to- Locks Road. Admission is free.

"It's a family event," said Sandy Boner, the manager for the canal community center's department.

Activities at the inaugural event will include children's games, eating contests, an antique-car show, food and craft vendors, a rubber duck race, and music. Tickets for children's games cost 25 cents, and rubber ducks cost $2.

Participants who enter the rubber duck race will have the chance to win $50.

Boner said the purpose of the event, which is set to be held annually, is to promote the canal headgates.
