At 6:30 p.m., Gospel Water Branch Baptist Church, at 703 Furys Ferry Road in Evans, will hold a prayer and praise service and health walk. Admission is free.

Carolyn Williams, the chairwoman for the church board, said the celebration is a much-anticipated event.

"It's very exciting, because it's one of the oldest African-American churches in Columbia County," she said. The church began in 1880.

For years, Williams said, the church has played an integral part in the community with its projects, including a summer enrichment program, child care, Bible classes, missionary ministry and more.

"The church has been a spiritual force in Columbia County," she said.
