Wolfpack set to begin defense of title soon

The Greenbrier Wolfpack fastpitch softball team is still basking in the glow of the school's first state softball crown, but the hard work to defend that Class AAAA title begins in just five short weeks.

The Pack must replace a couple of talented players. Most notably, of course, is Tennessee Tech-bound Kristan Glover.

Glover will be impossible to replace. However, the cupboard is not bare.

Greenbrier should be one of the elite programs in the state again in 2005. Offensively, rising junior Tiffany Blackburn (3B) should be one of the state's top hitters. The team should be sound on defense as well.

The key will be finding a couple of pitchers to carry the load in 2005.

Garrett Black's squad gets their season cranked up on Aug. 10 at the Leadoff Classic hosted by Madison County in Danielsville, Ga. The Pack will face Stephens County in Game 1 and Winder-Barrow in the second game.

Once again in 2005 the Pack will play an extremely tough schedule.

They will travel to play some of the top programs in Georgia.

Teams such as Oconee County, Brookwood and North Forsyth are among the schools that Greenbrier will battle this fall.

Of course Greenbrier will have to contend with some talented local challenges as well. They face Lakeside on Sept. 8 and Sept. 29.

They will tangle with rival Evans on Sept. 20 and Oct. 4.
