Holiday closings
- The Columbia County landfill, on Baker Place Road, will be closed Monday because of Independence Day, and will reopen at 6 a.m. Tuesday.
- The Augusta Canal Interpretive Center, 1450 Greene St., will be closed Monday in observance of Independence Day.
Fourth of July activities
- The 18th annual Grovetown Community Barbecue will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Monday at Goodale Park. Barbecue is free, but takeout costs $5. For information, call Vicky at 863-4576.
- Columbia County's Fourth of July celebration will be held from 4 to 10 p.m. Monday at Patriots Park on Columbia Road. Festivities will include children's rides, arts and crafts, sack races and food. For information, call 868-3458.
Book signing
Columbia County writer Jan Holt will sign copies of There's a Possum in the House: Tales from a Southern Trailer Park, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. July 14 at the Augusta Museum of History, 560 Reynolds St. in Augusta. For information, call 722-8454.
Red Cross training
The Augusta Red Cross will hold training sessions for adult, infant, child and professional rescuer CPR, First aid and safety starting Tuesday through July 27. For the time and cost of each training session, call 724-8481.
Gardening at lunch
The Columbia County Extension Service will hold a lunch seminar from 12:10 to 12:45 p.m. Wednesday in the auditorium of the Government Complex Building A at Ronald Reagan Drive in Evans.
