Anniversary honors
Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Beasley were honored on their 50th wedding anniversary recently with a barbecue dinner at the Winfield Community House given by their children. A large group of friends and relatives gathered for the occasion.
Honor graduate
Joe H. Marshall III, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Marshall of Evans, was an honor graduate of this year's class at the University of Georgia.
He was a campus leader, editor of a College of Agriculture publication, member of the Sphinx Gridiron Club, Aghon, ODK, Blue Key and X Club. Joe is planning to do graduate work at Cornell University.
Knox wins bids
The State Highway Board has opened bids on some 30 new road projects in Georgia. The projects are located in 32 counties, including Columbia. Apparent low bids on the roadwork totals $5,172,999.44.
Among the Rural Roads Authority projects are these two for McDuffie and Columbia Counties:
- Grading and paving of 2.1 miles on the Thomson-Appling Road. Knox Brothers Inc., of Thomson is the apparent low bidder at $19,666.50.
- Grading and paving of 4 miles of the Harlem-Whiteoak Camp Ground Road. Knox brothers is apparent low bidder at $36,192.97.
