Starting today, Erin Beasley, 19, Miss Magnolia Midlands, and Ashley Foster, 18, Miss Augusta, will compete with 51 beauty queens for Miss Georgia in Columbus. The winner will then advance to the Miss America pageant, which will be held in the fall.
Although both girls said it would be nice to snag the title, they said their ultimate goal is to have fun and do their best.
"It would be excellent to finish as a finalist, but I really want to leave the week just knowing that I gave it everything I had,'' Beasley said, adding that she looks forward to meeting other girls throughout the state. "I heard it's like a summer camp for college-age girls. I really don't want to miss out on that kind of stuff."
Foster said she has similar feelings.
"I just want to do my best and be pleased with everything I've done," she said. "I'm looking forward to having the time of my life.''

Each night, 53 queens, who are divided into three groups - red, white and blue - will compete in one of the following preliminary competitions: swimsuit, talent and evening gown and casual wear.
Those with the highest composite score will then be selected as a top 10 finalist, which will air live in the Augusta area on television station WAGT (Channel 26) on Saturday.
The pageant will be the two girls' first time competing for a state title.
"I feel a strange calm," Foster said, adding that she's glad to be competing with a familiar face who's from the same town. "It's just a calm spirit and anticipation for the week to come.''
Beasley said reading has helped her in preparation for the event.
"I read a lot of Scripture. I'm very strong in my faith," she said. "I'm ready."
