The Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter in Evans will teach Star Wars fans how to "use the Force" at a theology seminar today.
The free seminar, dubbed A Theology of Star Wars, will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the church's office at 1105 Fury's Lane in Martinez.
"For two generations now, Star Wars has defined mythology for a lot of people," said Cynthia Taylor, the church's pastor. "I was interested how that mythology intersects with Christianity."
Theological themes the seminar will explore include the battle between good and evil, understanding the role choice plays in a person's life and why the dark side of the Force is seductive.
Taylor said people attending the seminar should be familiar with the saga. She also added that lightsabers are welcome.
This is not the first time that the church has held a seminar based on a blockbuster movie, Taylor said, adding that she always finds such a technique helpful when teaching about the Bible.
"I look at the way Jesus taught and he used some symbols of pop culture to teach a Christian message," she said.
For more information about the seminar, call the church office at 210-1133.
