The following accounts were taken from reports filed with the Columbia County Sheriff's Office:

Man arrested on child molestation charge

A 48-year-old Martinez man was arrested on a charge of child molestation Tuesday after authorities say he fondled a 9-year-old girl.

Jeffrey Scott Townsend, of the 3000 block of Highland Circle, surrendered to authorities at the Columbia County Detention Center after a warrant was issued for his arrest, said Capt. Steve Morris, a spokesman for the Columbia County Sheriff's Office.

Morris said Townsend is reported to have molested the girl, who lives in the same neighborhood, during March and April.

Townsend was released the same day of his arrest on a $25,000 bond, according to a jail report.

Soliciting is reported at restaurant

The assistant manager of a Martinez restaurant told police Monday that someone solicited his employees and customers for money at the business.

The manager said a man entered the McDonald's restaurant at 260 Bobby Jones Expressway to check on a job application, the report states.

The manager said that when she told the man there were no openings, he began asking for money.

The man left the restaurant before authorities arrived at the scene, the report states.

E-Z-Go vehicle stolen

The co-owner of an Evans business told police Tuesday that someone had stolen $2,950 in equipment from his store.

The co-owner of J and M Golf Carts, located at 690 Industrial Park Drive, told police that someone cut a black chain-link fence at the business and took a green, gas-powered E-Z-Go Workhorse without his permission.
