Brittany Darla Jackson received an associate of arts degree from Young Harris College. A 2003 graduate of Augusta Christian Schools, Brittany is the daughter of Billy and Robin Jackson, of Evans. Her grandparents are Paula Dukes, of Evans; Bill Jackson, of Appling; and Gerard and Darlene McKnight, of Martinez.

Jennifer Nelson, of Evans, has been named one of 25 students to receive the 2005 Truett Cathy Scholar Award from Chick-fil-A. Nelson is a 2004 graduate of Evans High School and has just completed her first year at the Georgia Institute of Technology. She is the daughter of Byron and Susan Nelson, of Evans.

Furman honor society inductee

Mary E. Mangum, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Byron Mangum, of Martinez, has been inducted into the Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society at Furman University.

S. Illinois University Carbondale graduates

The following Columbia County residents recently graduated from Southern Illinois University Carbondale: Zachary Thomas Curry, of Evans; Richard J. Wingate, of Harlem; and Edward Joseph Townsend, of Martinez.

Valdosta State award

Laura C. Sesto, of Evans, has received the Outstanding Art Student Award for Valdosta State University. The award was given during the school's 2005 Honors Day.

 

Allison Leigh Hillman graduated magna cum laude from Young Harris College and received the associate of science with concentration in education. A 2003 graduate of Westminster High School, Allison is the daughter of Richard and Cheryl Hillman. Her grandparents are Evelyn Hillman, of Augusta, and Reba and Earl McCoy, of Martinez. Allison was a member of the varsity tennis team at Young Harris College. She also was named to the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.

Francis Marion graduates

Nathaniel Eakins Deveney, of Grovetown, graduated from Francis Marion University in May. Deveney received a bachelor of business administration degree in management.

National conference participant

Wesley McKettrick, of Evans, has been selected to participate in the National Student Leadership Conference.

Conference participant

Marie Jung, of Harlem, recently presented a paper on "Latin Political Organization in Rome, Ga.'' at the 13th annual Latin American Study Symposium, held at Birmingham Southern College. Jung, a Berry College senior, was the only undergraduate to present her work at the conference.

Oklahoma City Law graduate

Kristi Michelle Keyes recently was awarded the juris doctor degree from the University of Oklahoma City Law School. Keyes, a 1997 Lakeside High School graduate, is the daughter of the Rev. Lonnie L. and Lillian Keyes, of Martinez, and also holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Georgia School of Journalism.

 

Kellie Marie O'Rourke, daughter of Kevin and Rebecca O'Rourke and a student at Evans High School, has been selected as a 2005 Georgia Certificate of Merit winner. Kellie is a member of Warren Baptist Church, a varsity cheerleader, a member of the Beta Club, the National Honor Society and the yearbook staff.

Theatre member

Rebecca Koger, daughter of Marion and Susan Koger, of Evans, was a member of the crew in the Wofford Theatre production of The Importance of Being Earnest. Koger was a sound board operator.

Pharmacy awards

The following Martinez residents recently received awards at the 57th annual Pharmacy Awards banquet: Amanda Lynn Wallace, who received the Redfearn Award for community service; and Michael Bradley Smith, who received the Roche Pharmacy Communications Award.

UGA award

David Rychly, of Martinez, has received the University of Georgia's Presidential Graduate Fellows award for a $22,000 per year stipend. Rychly will begin graduate studies in the college's clinical and experimental therapeutics program in the fall.

Berry Dean's List

The following Columbia County residents have been named to the Dean's List at Berry College for the spring semester: Christy Deason Hill, of Evans, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Knight Hill; Marisa Adele Hinchcliff, of Martinez, daughter of Allison M. Hinchcliff; and Joshua Roberts Lee, of Martinez, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jeffrey R. Lee.

Georgia Southwestern Dean's List

Gregory A. Ryan, of Evans, has been named to the Dean's List at Georgia Southwestern State University for the spring semester.

Berry College graduates

The following Columbia County residents graduated from Berry College during the spring semester: Anthony Michael Chiles, of Evans, son of Travis and Marcia Chiles; Christy Deason Hill, of Evans, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Knight Hill; Jeremy Warren Walker, of Grovetown, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas L. Walker; and Marie Christine Jung, of Harlem, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter J. Jung.
