Augusta Christian didn't have to wait long to win its first state championship as a member of the South Carolina Independent Schools Association.
The Lions won the Class AAA state baseball title Tuesday, giving the school its first team state title since it joined SCISA for the 2004-05 school year.
"This is a great moment for our school," ACS coach Craig Johnson said. "It is exciting for our school to win its first title in SCISA."
In the biggest at-bat of his life, junior Wayne House knocked a two-run single off the right field fence to give ACS the win, 4-3, over Wilson Hall. The Lions won Game 1, 14-2, Monday.
"I knew when I hit it we had a good chance of scoring those two runs," said House. "We kind of have a short field and they were playing in to have a shot at throwing out a runner at the plate. So I knew it was deep enough."

The win gave ACS its third state baseball title. The Lions previously won the GISA title in 1996 and 1999.
