Winthrop University Dean's List
Lakeside High School senior Michael Mitchell, shown with Georgia Southern University President Bruce Grube and Provost Linda Bleicken, recently attended the third annual Scholar's Day at the university in Statesboro. To be invited, students had to score a minimum of 1200 on the SAT.

Kathy Gaskin, daughter of Alva and Debbie Gaskin, of Evans, recently was named to the Dean's List at Winthrop University. The 2003 Greenbrier High School honor graduate is a junior majoring in psychology and is spending her spring semester studying abroad at Deakin University in Melbourne, Australia.

Rania Lauree Williams has received recognition on the National Dean's List for the fall semester. Williams' parents are Dr. and Mrs. Robert L. Williams, of Grovetown.
Skills upgraded
D.J. Williams, Sarah Allen, April Hardy and Denise Long, senior designers at D.J. & Company Spa & Gifts Inc., recently upgraded their skills by attending The Redken Exchange Club 5th Avenue in New York City. They learned advanced techniques in hair design and hair color.
Teacher honored
Christy D. Presgrove, a faculty member of Greenbrier High School, has been named by the Georgia chapter of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese as its outstanding Spanish teacher for 2005. Presgrove is a resident of Grovetown.
Murray State graduate
Amy Catlett, of Martinez, graduated after spring semester at Murray State University with a bachelor of science in degree in business.
Mercer University student Meredith Weare, of Martinez, recently was inducted into the Mercer chapter of Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society. Weare is a graduate of Evans High School and the daughter of Jim and Linda Weare.

Student award
Tarsa M. Andres, of Grovetown, was recently presented with a Divisional Discipline award during the recent Honors Day ceremony at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. Andres received the Ornamental Production Technology Award in the Division of Agriculture and Forest Resources.
Who's Who
Sarah Holloway, of Evans, recently was awarded the Who's Who Among American College Students award at the University of South Carolina's annual Awards Day ceremony. Holloway was set to graduate from USC on May 6.
Prize winner
Ryan Swain, of Grovetown, was the winner of a bicycle at the 2005 Dodge Tour de Georgia event. Ryan, who attends Westmont Elementary School, was one of hundreds of pupils from throughout Georgia who participated in the Healthy Georgia Expo Hunt during this year's Tour de Georgia. The Expo, sponsored by the Georgia Department of Human Resources and the Georgia Cancer Coalition, included several interactive, health-focused booths.
Sheila Venkatesh, of Martinez, received a four-year scholarship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She is the daughter of Srini and Meena Venkatesh, of Martinez. Sheila is a graduate of Lakeside High School, where she participated in the Governor's Honors Program. She plans to major in biology.
