To celebrate Israel's 57th year as an independent state, the Augusta Jewish Community Center in Evans will hold a family festival today.
The event, called Israel Experience Day, will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. at the center, at 898 Weinberger Way in Evans. Admission is free, but there is a cost for food.
"It's a way to introduce people to what they would find in Israel," said Leah Ronen, the executive director for the center and the Augusta Jewish Federation.
Ronen added that the first 300 people to attend will receive a free gift from Israel.
"This is our way to show others that there are some wonderful sides to the country," she said about the third annual celebration.
Israel received its independence May 14, 1948.
From belly dancing to children's activities, choirs, vendors, music, and authentic Middle Eastern foods, Ronen said the event offers festivities for all ages to enjoy.
Participants also will have an opportunity to participate in a silent auction, a raffle and will learn about Jewish holidays.
