"I think we have a really strong team," Miller said earlier in the season. "We have a lot of talent on our team and I think we will be able to do some good things this season."

Miller, in her first year as coach of the Lady Lions, lead ACS to its first region title in fastpitch softball.

Augusta Christian (13-3, 6-0) beat the defending Class AAA state champions, Cardinal Newman, in extra innings on May 6.

Anchoring the team is the team's lone senior, Kristin Wallace, an All-State performer.

Wallace, who has signed with Southern Wesleyan, hit .450 last season and has 48 steals in a season. She was also a finalist for the Wendy's High School Heisman award.

"Kristin is an amazing pitcher," Miller said. "She is one of the biggest reasons we have been so successful this season."

ACS will begin the double-elimination state tournament on Friday in the Upper State bracket against the No. 4 seed from Region I. The game will start at 4:45 at the Oak Grove Softball Complex in Lexington, S.C.
