Several area United States Specialty Sports Association Baseball teams have come together in an attempt to help finance their spring and summer travel plans.
Like most travel baseball teams, this group runs up a pretty hefty bill over the course of the season. Among hotels, food, gas, uniforms and other miscellaneous needs, the cost to run one of these type of baseball teams can be overwhelming.
However, in recent years baseball prospects have begun to make a name for themselves by traveling to play the best teams around the state, region and nation.
As you might expect in Columbia County, there are many travel baseball teams - far too many to name.
A fund-raising-savvy group of teams has joined forces to cover some of their costs for the upcoming travel season. Four Columbia County teams and one Richmond County squad, who have all had success in the competitive travel baseball team world, decided to rent out Lake Olmstead Stadium for an upcoming GreenJackets game with the idea that they could sell tickets and use the profits to help defray a portion of their expenses.
The game is coming up this Sunday at 2:15 as the GreenJackets square off with the Columbus Catfish. You still have a few days to get your tickets for the game and the cost won't break you. Tickets are just $3 each.
So if you don't have any plans for Sunday, why not take in a ball game while at the same time helping to raise money for a good cause? Below is a list of the teams, as well as a list of the area businesses where you can find tickets.
