Harlem beats Evans

Harlem High School's baseball team, winner over Social Circle in the first Region-C playoff, downed Evans High in Harlem on Monday by a score of 3-2.

E.G. Meybohm, Harlem's right-hander, gave up only two hits to the Evans Knights while Harlem was credited with a total of eight safeties.

Harlem plays Evans Wednesday night at Jennings Stadium for the second in a two-out-of-three contest to determine the Region 6-C championship.

Three seek seat

Three candidates have announced for the congressional seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Paul Brown.

The three are John Pierce Blanchard, superintendent of Columbia County schools; Allen Pannell, clerk of superior court of McDuffie County; and Randolph H. Jones, an Augusta attorney.

Blanchard has been connected with Columbia County schools since 1941 and has been superintendent since 1948.

Pannell is widely known in 10th District political circles, having served for many years as a public official in McDuffie County.

Jones was the first to announce, with a platform that includes preservation of segregation and a 25 percent cut in income taxes.

Little League barbecue

A barbecue for the benefit of the Grovetown Little League will be held Friday, May 13, 1960, at the Grovetown Fire Department.

Prices will be $1.50 and 65 cents. Everyone is invited to come and bring their family. Tickets may be purchased at Ferguson's Service Station.
