I think Evans needs sidewalks on Cox, Gibbs and Hereford Farm roads from Belair Road to the Farmington Subdivision. These sidewalks would make it easier for children to walk to school or even ride their bikes.
Even though the county has a separate budget from the school system, it is all tax dollars from the community and would benefit the county as a whole.
Many times when I am riding in the car with my parents I see joggers and bikers in a very narrow strip of the shoulder on Gibbs Road. Sidewalks would be a great safety feature for these people as well. Also, this would save the school system transportation costs by making a safe pathway to the schools on these roads.
Even though it costs a lot of money now, it will be a great money-saving benefit in the future.
This is something I have thought about for years, as it would also make it easier for me to go see friends in other neighborhoods that are separated by these busy streets.
Columbia County commissioners should seriously think this through, and not just think of it as a kid's idea. I truly believe this would be a positive change for the future of Evans and a great cost saving for both the county and the school system.
