Outdoor concert planned

In honor of the Augusta Symphony's 50th anniversary, a free outdoor concert will be held in Evans on Saturday.

The concert, dubbed "Symphony Pops Under The Stars," which is sponsored by University Health Care System, will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Evans campus of University Health Care System, located off Belair Road at University Parkway.

"We wanted to do something special for Columbia County, and University Health Care System wanted to show off their campus," Martha Robinson, the director of operations, said about the inaugural event.

Pre-concert festivities will kick off at 7 p.m. and will feature the Lakeside High School concert band, food, vendors and prize giveaways. Robinson said participants may bring coolers, blankets and chairs.

"We hope that we are going to make this a tradition and have it every year," Robinson said.
