Doretha Merriweather, 45, of the 600 block of Cretlyn Drive in North Augusta, was driving this Jeep Cherokee at about 1:15 p.m. Wednesday when she attempted a left turn from Halali Farm Road onto Washington Road in Evans, authorities said. Police said Merriweather, with passenger Angela Anderson, of Boykin Road in Augusta, pulled into the path of a Volkswagen Jetta driven by Patricia Scott, 30, of the 3700 block of Adelia Drive in Appling. The Jetta struck the front left quarter panel of the Jeep, rolling it on its side in the eastbound lane. Scott's vehicle continued through a ditch and chain-link fence into the parking lot of Cushman's Paint and Body garage, where it struck a parked car. Merriweather and Anderson were transported to Medical College of Georgia Hospital, where they were treated and released, according to Danielle Wong Moores, a hospital spokeswoman. Scott and her 14-year-old son Ross were treated at the scene for minor injuries. Merriweather was determined to be at fault in the accident and was charged with failing to yield the right of way when turning left.
