Camp captures imagination

Posted: Sunday, May 01, 2005

The Columbia County Arts Summer Camp will once again inspire campers' imagination in the areas of drama, arts and crafts, singing and dance.

This year's theme, dubbed Under the Big Top, will be held from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. June 6-10 at the Savannah Rapids Pavilion in the Loblolly Pine Room, 3300 Evans-to-Locks Road in Martinez. The cost is $175 for Columbia County Arts members, $200 for nonmembers and $175 for each additional family camper. The camp is just one of many gearing up in Columbia County for the summer season, and will be open to children completing first through fifth grades.

"It's basically a performing arts camp,'' said Beverly Smith, the camp director, about the second annual event. "It encompasses all of the art disciplines."

During the week of the camp, Smith said, campers will prepare for a musical production that will be performed at the end of week.

"We're looking to expand our camp and inspire our children's creative side," she said. "Our whole premise behind this is to let them have fun."
