Lakeside's Drayton receives first D-1 offer

Posted: Wednesday, April 27, 2005

Lakeside safety Chris Drayton loves the game of football and he has a desire to be the very best player he can be.

Well, to be the best you must challenge yourself by playing with the best.

It appears that Drayton will get that opportunity on the college level. Last week, Drayton got his first major college offer when Kentucky offered the 6-foot-2, 195-pound junior a football scholarship to play for the Wildcats. This will likely be the first of many offers for Drayton.

Last season he was a ball-hawking defensive back and a solid return man for the Panthers. This season Drayton will likely be used more on offense, possibly as a running back or quarterback.

Kentucky loved Drayton on film and made the offer almost immediately after viewing a tape of the Panthers standout.

Drayton, who is working with Move Mountains Inc. (a business that specializes in marketing athletes), plans to get more tapes out very soon. Expect to hear about more offers in the near future.

In addition to Kentucky, Drayton likes several SEC and ACC schools, including Georgia Tech.

I don't think people realize just how much potential Drayton has. He has not gained much recognition so far. That does not mean, however, that he is not deserving. He might be one of the biggest sleepers in the entire state in 2005.

He first caught my attention as a middle school basketball player, but the minute I saw him as a freshman for the Lakeside football team I knew that he could be a big-time player.

He is still very raw as a player and gets by because of his terrific athleticism. Like many coaches believe, I think with hard work and dedication the sky is the limit for Drayton.
