Columbia County News-Times Publisher Barry Paschal has been awarded the 2005 Louis Harris Award by the Augusta West Rotary Club.
The Augusta West Rotary Club selected Columbia County News-Times Publisher Barry Paschal as recipient of the Louis Harris Award.

The Rotary Club presents the annual award for journalism and community service to a member of the area's news media as a way of honoring the memory of Harris, the longtime editor of The Augusta Chronicle and the Augusta Herald and an active community leader.
Paschal has spent the past eight years at The News-Times, serving as its publisher since 2002. Previously he was a reporter for the Herald and The Chronicle, and an editorial writer for The Chronicle. He also worked as a mobile news reporter for radio station WBBQ and as a reporter for The Post in North Augusta.
He is a graduate of Harlem High School and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism from the University of Georgia.
Paschal is a co-chairman of Columbia County's Red, White & Blue Veterans Celebration and Christmas in America committees; a member of the executive board of the Augusta Museum of History; a member of the advisory councils for Goodwill Industries, the Junior League of Augusta and the Columbia-Richmond County Extension Service; a member of the Columbia County Community Events and Local Emergency Planning committees; and a member of the board of Big Changes Start Small, Inc.
