Truck overturns into ditch
Dax Headley, of Grovetown, gives a written statement with her son, Hunt, 3, after a dump truck, driven by Ryan Keith Washington, 21, of Hephzibah, went into the ditch on Wrightsboro Road across from Old Wheeler Road in Grovetown on Monday. Eastbound traffic was stopped for a car turning left onto Old Wheeler Road when Washington tried to slow down, but found his brakes failed, Columbia County sheriff's Staff Sgt. Tim Perry said. Washington, who drives for Mark's Clearing and Grading, tried to downshift, but could not slow down enough to avoid hitting Headley's vehicle, so he put the truck in the ditch instead. No one was charged in the accident and Washington was transported to the Medical College of Georgia Hospital, where he was treated and released.
