Winning orators

Vern Simon (right), the president of the Greater Augusta chapter of Right to Life, presents checks to the top winners of the annual oratory contest at Abilene Baptist Church. Stephen Alger, the first-place winner, was awarded $50, and Marie Hartney, the second-place winner, received a $25 prize. Both contestants are juniors at the Alleluia Community School in Augusta. Six Alleluia students participated in this year's contest; their mentor was their teacher Anita McKie.
