Some like it hot.

In Trevor Drulia's case, he went to great lengths testing several restaurant foam coffee cups to see which could keep hot water the hottest for the longest amount of time.

In the end, Trevor's science fair project "Caution! Contents Hot!" won him the J. Guyton Thompson Award in the Intermediate division of the 2005 CSRA Regional Science and Engineering Fair grand award.

"My sister did a project the exact opposite of mine and I thought it would be fun to see which cup could keep a drink the hottest, the longest," said Trevor, 9, a fourth-grader at Riverside Elementary School.

After testing cups from McDonald's, Chick-fil-A, Atlanta Bread Co., Pump 'N Shop and Dunkin Donuts, Trevor said McDonald's proved to be the best.

Mary Bridges, a fifth-grade teacher at Riverside, who also is the science fair coordinator, said Trevor was the first pupil that she knows of to receive such an award in an elementary project from a large pool of competitors of 18 counties throughout the region.

On March 24, Trevor was recognized at the Christenberry Fieldhouse for his project.

"I'm anxious to be the one to represent my school," Trevor said with a smile.

Bridges said Trevor volunteered to perform the project, which is not mandatory for fourth-graders.

"He chose the topic all by himself," she said. "We want them to understand the scientific process, and it helps students with the CRCT (Criterion Referenced Competency Test)."
