Church invites community to carnival

Members of an Evans church will celebrate the day before Easter by sponsoring a day of outdoor fun for families to enjoy.

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Lewis Memorial United Methodist Church, at 5555 Hereford Farm Road, will hold a Holy Saturday carnival. The event is free.

"This is our way of giving back to our community," said Marty Lick, the church's publicity chairman.

"We're saying thank you for letting us be a part of the community."

The event will include games, an Easter egg hunt with prizes for children, a hayride, a horse ride and performances by three praise bands.

Lick said a smorgasbord of hot dogs and hamburgers will be served for lunch.

The event, which is sponsored by the United Methodist Men, Women and Missions' ministries, also is a way to share the gospel of Jesus Christ, Lick said.

"We use this event to let people know why we celebrate Easter, and it's a day of preparation before we celebrate the resurrection."
