The Haydens All Star Twisters senior squad cheered its way to victory Feb. 19-20 at the Cheersport National Cheerleading and Dance competition in Atlanta.
The 18-member squad, which competed against 17 other teams in the senior small intermediate division, climbed to No. 1, claiming the title as the 2005 National Champions.
"We were so excited when we won," said Ellie Bissell, a member of the senior and junior black squad. "We just jumped up and screamed."
Since June, the squad has worked hard to perfect its winning routine that is filled with cheering, tumbling, stunting and dancing two days a week.
"This year has been a tremendous success due to the fact that these girls came in as individuals and turned into a winning team," said Leslie Anderson, the All Star director and head coach for the junior black and senior squads, adding that the senior squad's success is one of many first-place titles they've won during the 2004-05 season. "They push each other to be better and support each other even when they are not at their best."
