Presidential Scholar

Ryan Schiefer, son of Eric and Barbara Schiefer, of Evans, has been named a presidential scholar for the fall semester at the University of Georgia. Ryan is a physics major and graduate of Greenbrier High School.

Barbara Schiefer recently received her certification as a psychiatric rehabilitation practitioner from the U.S. Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association. She is an occupational therapist working as the psychiatric rehab program coordinator at Friendship Community Center in Augusta.

Dean's List

Zachary Reid Ducey, of Evans, has been named to the dean's list at Lander University for the fall semester.

Leadership conference

Harold Mock, of Evans, placed second in a case study competition at the Georgia Collegiate Leadership Con-ference on Feb. 5, held by the University of Georgia in Athens. Mock and another student represented the Georgia College & State University Student Ambassador Team and earned a $200 cash prize for their team. The team prepared for two weeks to participate in the competition, which showcased the students' leadership styles.

Mock, a senior majoring in history and political science, is the son of Michelle and Harold Mock Jr., of Evans. He graduated from Evans High School, where he was a member of the debate team and the National Forensic League. He also is a graduate of the Columbia County Chamber of Commerce Youth Leadership Program.
