Lynx players will have kids' story time

The Augusta Lynx hockey players will move off the ice and into Gibbs Library for show-and-tell and a story time at 4 p.m. on Tuesday and on Feb. 22.
Pam Link, the children's librarian at Gibbs, said Lynx players will read books to the children, then talk about experiences that led them to play hockey.
"The players are young and real personable. They tell how they got started playing, what influenced them, and what their major was in college. Many are from Canada or northern states, and it's really interesting to hear their stories," Link said.
The players will bring some of their equipment for the children to touch. Also, they will sign autographs. Link said many children bring their own hockey sticks or shirts for the players to autograph.
"The players like to go to the library. It goes along with our 'Reading is Cool as Ice' program. It gives them personal interaction with the children, and the kids get excited about that," said Ben Lesshofft, the community relations director for the Lynx.
The event is for children age 6 and older. Pre-registration is required and can be done by phone until the day of the story time.

"We very seldom turn anyone away. We just have so many who participate, we need to know how to plan," Link said.
