Pastor: The Rev. Rex Wright

Congregation size: 300

Membership: Most who attend are from Columbia and Richmond counties.

Founded: 1890

Known for: "This church is a family-friendly church," the Rev. Wright said. "We are thankful that we are a loving, down-to-earth and receiving church. The people here are real. We are all trying to grow."

Music: The church offers gospel, contemporary, and praise and worship music. The church also has five choirs and a praise team, accompanied by drums, bass, a piano and organ.

What would you say to someone who's thinking about giving your church a try? "Should they come here, they run the risk of staying," the Rev. Wright said. "Our prayer and hope is to look like heaven looks, and for every soul to be comfortable here. We want to welcome any soul that the Lord will put in our presence."

What do you believe is the biggest issue facing the faithful today? "Our concern is for the strength of the family," he said. "Oakey Grove's ministry is geared toward edification and building people up. Right now, it's one area that concerns us all. We are constantly asserting and finding ways to (strengthen) families."
