Barbecue benefit

Barbecue chicken dinners will be on sale from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Eubank Blanchard Community Center on Cobbham Road in Appling. They will benefit the National Transplant Assistance Fund in honor of Joyce Ann Lewis, a McDuffie County resident in need of a kidney transplant. Dinner costs $6. Greyhound adoption

Doggie Diner

Happy Tails Rescue will hold a Doggie Diner for dogs and owners from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at SuperPetz on Bobby Jones Expressway. There will be coffee and bagels for owners and treats for dogs. Dress up your pet for a photo with Cupid. The events are free, but donations will be accepted. Battle of Kettle Creek

Lifeguard training
