Seven Columbia County high school seniors were recently named for Student Teacher Achievement Recognition for their schools, which include Evans, Harlem, Greenbrier, Lakeside, Augusta Christian and Augusta Prep.
STAR students are recognized for scoring the highest on the SAT in one sitting, which was taken through the November test date of their senior year. They also must be in the top 10 percent, or be one of the top 10 students in their class.
Each student picks an educator who influenced him or her as a STAR teacher.
The students will vie for the county's STAR student honor during a Harlem Women's Club reception at 4 p.m. Thursday in Harlem.
The winner will compete for the districtwide STAR student honor, and the winner of that award will compete for the state STAR award, which will be announced at a banquet scheduled for April 20 in Atlanta.
